Stuck in SIBO land- Could it be advanced intestinal biofilm?

An advanced intestinal biofilm layer may be at play for you if you’ve had a long-term infection, inflammation, and microbial overgrowths… and feel stuck in SIBOland, continuing to relapse.

I like the analogy of your intestinal biofilm layer being like the old frat house porch couch - it has used party cups, chip crumbs, and all sorts of mischief on top of and between the cushions. Sure you can sweep off the surface (a round of antibiotics), but you didn’t lift the cushions and shake them out, leaving crumbs and trash in the cracks (opportunistic bacteria, candida, and other invaders).

You may feel good about your couch looking clean and tidy and have reduced SIBO-type symptoms for a time, but we both know that things are lurking inside that couch (biofilm)… and eventually, the bacteria may grow back.

Addressing this advanced matrix before using antimicrobials is one key to avoiding a relapse.
